Telling Tales at Kenilworth Castle

posted in: Events, Historical fiction | 0

On Wednesday 23 October I shall be starting a three-day Telling Tales project for English Heritage based at the spectacular Kenilworth Castle. I will be working with a group of Year 8 students from Kenilworth School, supporting them as they create their own myths and legends inspired by their visit to the castle.

Having made a preliminary visit earlier this month, I am sure we won’t be short of inspiration! Here are a few photos. Check back here for a full report on the event …coming soon!

The Great Hall at Kenilworth Castle English Heritage

The Great Hall at the castle once had not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, but SIX enormous fire places.
Atlas Fountain in the Elizabethan Garden at Kenilworth Castle

Two Atlas figures and a ragged staff form the centrepiece of the white marble fountain in the Elizabethan Garden at the castle. The base of the fountain is also adorned with relief sculptures of figures from Roman mythology.

The site of the old Mere at Kenilworth Castle. Queen Elizabeth I was among the many royals and noble men and women who enjoyed this once magnificent lake. The possibilities for story writing are endless!
